MARY MCCORMICK

Mary McCormick is a writer based in Tāmaki Makaurau, whose work explores intimacy, vulnerability and relationships, through a tone of warmth and humour.

Mary graduated with a Master’s in Screenwriting from The Victorian College of the Arts (VCA) Melbourne in 2020, where her short film By Your Side was produced (directed by Domini Marshall). Her feature film script Fringe was a quarterfinalist in the Fresh Voices (2020), Bluecat (2021) and Austin Film Festival (2021) screenplay competitions, and earned her a First-Class Honours. It was selected for a live reading as part of New Play Sundays (2022).

She was selected to participate in the Show Me Shorts Screenwriters Lab (2022), with her short film script feel better, which she has been developing with mentorship from Sophie Henderson. An early draft of this script was long-listed for the Monte Miller Award (2021) in Australia.

Mary also works as a freelance reader/coverage writer for production companies and competitions in Australia and America.
